Just A Cry
by Katia Farrugia
she tried to muffle the click with outstretched hands,
and the door closed softly
leaving no trace of movement behind.
trying to focus, trying to walk.
and she moved,
her eyes on the narrow street ahead
her breath catching slowly
her legs turning to stone
as dread filled her heart and emotion
huddled its beat.
trying to focus, trying to walk.
again and again she tried to hold it back,
this pulse that threatened,
yet she lost to intensity
and she lingered, she looked back, stumbled, fell, hurt
trying to focus, trying to walk.
a cry escaped from her throat as reality overcame her
tasted blood and gravel on her lips.
pain, oh battering pain.
